Metaphor for Interface design

In the designing of a new interface, it is good to use metaphors to put it into the design. Because the user has  previous experience of using the metaphors, metaphors will help the user to get to learn to use the new interface faster without to learn it in details.

Here are a few examples:

  1. Windows desktop uses a real desktop for metaphor – It simulates the items of a real desktop, organizes them into folders etc.
  2. Outlook calender uses a real calender for metaphor – It simulates the arrange of a real calender, organize into columns and rows of each months.
